Aerial view of a wild jungle shoreline
The island
A plane crash. An island. Zero adults.
Conch not included.
Rule one: mind the fire. Week one is only three days. Easy landing. Summer, plus one very weird island. Glasses are important. You’ll see. (Get it?) Pack light. Read heavy.

Two pages. You’ve got this.

The short version full details in the PDF

  • Get a copy of the novel — library, bookstore, online, a sibling’s bookshelf, or just ask: your teachers will lend you one. Any edition works.
  • Read it.
  • Leave notes in the book as you go — at least 4 per chapter: what characters are up to, what big quotes really mean, and a quick recap at each chapter’s end. The PDF shows exactly how, with examples.
Sticky notes are a good trick (totally optional).
Bright ones — easier to find after a plane crash.

When school starts

  • Day 1: bring your book and your notes.
  • Day 4 (the start of week two): show you really read it — a quick what-happened check. Read for real and you’re fine.
  • Your first big piece of high school writing will be built on this novel.
“Have a great summer. We can’t wait to meet you.”
